Democrats and peace activists like to toss the word "quagmire" around and compare this war to Vietnam. In a way they are right, this war is becoming like Vietnam. Not the actual war, but in the isolation of country and military. America is not a nation at war; they are a nation with its military at war. Like it or not, we are here, some of us for our second, or third times; some even for their fourth and so on. Americans are so concerned now with politics, that it is interfering with our war.Hope Rides Alone by Sgt. Eddie Jeffers, USA

Everytime Osama bin Laden talks of crushing the infidel, I can’t help but think of Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf pointing vigorously skyward and practically spitting at the reporters: “We are crushing the American army as we speak!”

My New Motto
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chips in one hand, a beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO!!!! What a ride!

Who Among Us?
Ronald Reagan, January 20, 1981:
In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price.

Sedition in Olympia: Anti-war mom drops baby human shield as anarchist kiddie shields watch
After the military convoy was forced to retreat, a victory celebration ensued, with chanting dancing, etc. I was horrified to watch as the woman in the attached photograph, distracted by events, allowed her infant to fall from her lap and land, face first on the pavement. The second photo shows her retrieving the crying baby as her other two children, dressed as terrorists look on.
Moonbats come unglued and children are victimized.

The Chickens Come Home To Roost
The "root cause" of inner-city violence in Boston and other areas must be laid squarely at the feet of LBJ's so-called Great Society--that deranged idea designed to keep poor people poor and black people trapped in the 'hood under the guise of helping them deal with life's difficulties. The Great Society was a great scam and hoax perpetrated upon inner-city blacks, a deceptive deal that convinced too many that a life of handouts and dependence was preferable to a life of hard work and diligence.

Edwards, Kerry - A match made in narcissism hell
In his column Tuesday, Warthen wrote about three episodes he had with Edwards during the latter's presidential primary campaign and vice presidential bid alongside John Kerry in 2004. In each, he described Edwards as a man who put on a show for audiences, but showed utter disregard for individuals behind the scenes.
Any wonder why Edwards and John Kerry were a perfect match for each other?

Couldn't have said it better myself
So this is what it’s come down to, with your public servants saying your opinions do not matter, and what’s more, if you persist in demanding to exercise your democracy, you’ll be dismissed as a bigot who opposes civil rights or a religious nut consumed by toxic faith.
Right on, Joe. This is disgusting. But then, the kicker:
Anyone who would take away your vote on this issue has no business asking for it when re-election rolls around.
What’s civil about taking away people’s right?

A Memorial Day Message
Michael Yon
"Although there is sharp fighting in Diyala Province, and Baghdad remains a battleground, and the enemy is trying to undermine security in areas they’d lost interest in, the fact is that the security plan, or so-called “surge,” is showing clear signs of progress."

Sad story, stupid parents
The story of Madeleine McCann is tragic and heartbreaking. I can't even imagine how I'd feel if one of my kids disappeared that way.
But I don't have much sympathy:
So they went to dinner, leaving a four year old girl in a locked apartment, in a foreign country, alone?
Can anything -- anything -- good possibly come from this scenario? What are the possibilities? Playing the bathtub and drowning? Climbing up a dresser and having it fall? Finger in an electric socket? At the very least, couldn't they hire a nanny or a babysitter to stay with the girl for the evening?
People like this are the best argument for parenting licenses!

...Kate and Gerry went for a meal at a tapas restaurant, checking on Madeleine in their nearby apartment every half hour or so.

Dr. Helen: Transparency in Healthcare
Dr. Helen: Transparency in Healthcare
The real reason why healthcare is so expensive is that its users -- providers and consumers -- don't know how much it costs.
Insurance doesn't help the problem. In fact, it obscures the real situation. Forcing us all to buy insurance is exactly the wrong direction -- we should strive for an economy where insurance is not necessary.

How to pour ketchup
Ketchup can be regarded as a highly viscous liquid, or a thixotropic (flows under pressure) solid. Neither term is exactly correct, but the problem is not what to call it. The problem is how to get the ketchup out of the bottle, in measured quantities, without making a mess.
Full technical explanation.
